We are back with our tactic testing today with one of the best and underrated tactics for FM.

The tactic is Undringstaktiken 4-1-1-31 by NuFcPRO. If you are looking for a new tactic, then this article is not to be missed.

Conditions of the test

I used my usual set-up of simming the game for a season as Everton while not making any transfers or tactical changes.

I also set the holiday settings to ‘current team selection when possible’ so the strongest team for the tactic would be selected.

How is the tactic set up?

The tactic creator describes it as ‘An Asymmetric 4231 of Sorts’ with an attacking mentality. The first thing that jumped out to me about this tactic is that although it is an attack-minded tactic, it is still relatively well-balanced.

One aspect of the tactic I appreciate is that it gets a central midfielder, a central midfielder and an attacking midfielder into one team while still not tipping the tactic into being too attacking.

The deep-lying playmaker offers defensive protection to the two centre-backs, as the full-backs like to bomb forward and support the attack.

The two inside forwards on support is also a decision I like, as they offer something both in attack and defence. Meanwhile, the central midfielder has provided a good attacking output in my recent saves.

How did the tactic perform?

For me, with these tactics, testing articles, overachieving is the objective. There is no point talking about a tactic if it only achieves mid-table or survival if that’s the team’s projected position anyway.

Many people are looking for a wonder tactic that helps your team vastly overachieve, and this is one such tactic.

Despite a predicted finish of 16th place, the team finished as runners-up in the Premier League, just a point behind eventual champions surprise champions Aston Villa.

The team was particularly impressive in attack, as only third-place Liverpool could better the team’s tally of 82 goals scored in the Premier League.

At the other end of the pitch, the team had the worst defence in the top six. However, we managed to concede fewer goals than champions Aston Villa.

The number of goals conceded was not a major concern for me, as the team’s attacking play negated the unconvincing defensive record.

One impressive aspect of this tactic was the team’s away record, as it was the best in the Premier League, having won 13 of the 19 league games on our travels.

The team also started the league campaign in lightning fashion, winning 16 of the first 19 matches while suffering just one defeat.

As well as finishing second in the Premier League, we made it to the semi-finals of both the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, where we were defeated by Chelsea and Liverpool respectively.

The cup runs only underlined the stellar campaign we enjoyed using this tactic.

Who were the best performers in the tactic?

Although this tactic is relatively well-balanced, it just edges towards an attacking style, showcased by the goals scored and conceded section.

The best performer in this test was, without a doubt, striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The England international scored an impressive 35 goals and produced eight assists in 50 appearances in all competitions.

Having used this tactic extensively recently, this is not a surprise, as if you have an anywhere decent striker, he will tend to score a hatful of goals using this tactic.

The other attacking players in the team also thrived. Jack Harrison, who played on the right as an inside forward, scored 12 goals and produced 16 assists in a strong season.

Dele Alli enjoyed the sort of campaign that most of us would love him to have in real life, as he scored 13 times and produced four assists in 36 appearances.

Dwight McNeil also produced strong numbers, playing as both an attacking midfielder and an inside forward on the left, scoring 12 goals and making seven assists.

The numbers were impressive, as he only started 22 of the 47 games he featured in during the campaign.

Another wide player who enjoyed a decent campaign was Arnaut Danjuma, who was the starting player in the inside forward position on the left of the attack. The Dutchman made 43 starts and one substitute appearance, scoring eight goals and picking up 14 assists.

When it comes to assists, left-back Vitaly Mykolenko produced eight, while deep-lying playmaker Amadou Onana and central midfielder James Garner both produced seven assists apiece.

Right-backs Nathan Patterson and Seamus Coleman also managed to create five goals each.

What is my conclusion?

For me, this is hands down the best tactic I have used on FM24. It combines reliability and entertainment into one perfect plug-and-play package.

It is the tactic that I am currently using in my personal save, in which we have won the Premier League title in nine straight seasons. I think that tells its own story.

If you haven’t tried this vastly underrated tactic, please do, as I don’t believe you will regret it.
