When it comes to FM, we all love the feeling of picking up a player for a bargain price. One of the best ways to sign quality players is by looking for players with release clauses in their contracts.
Here are a few of our favourite release clause bargains on FM24:
Ricardo Horta (Sporting Braga, release clause of £25.5m)
The Portuguese forward is an absolute bargain for an upwardly mobile team that is challenging for trophies or places at the top of one of Europe’s big leagues.
Horta has so many positives, as his stats are those of a premium player, but £25.5m is not a premium price tag.
His other plus points include the fact that he is at the peak of his powers at 28 and that he can virtually play anywhere in attack.
Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen, release clause of £34.5m)
The wing-back has played a big part in Bayer Leverkusen winning their first Bundesliga title this season, with goals and assists.
The Netherlands international would be another shrewd acquisition, with a release clause of £34.5m. He can play virtually any position down the right of the pitch and tends to do well anywhere on the field.
When the game starts, he is just 22, and his stats only get better if he is adequately developed. The former Manchester City youngster will likely see an improvement in his stats next season.
However, for now, he is a player that is well worth his £34.5m release clause.
Aimar (Osasuna, release clause of £28m)
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder is one of my favourite signings on FM24.
On one of my early long-term saves, I believe I bought him for around £14m a few seasons in, as he must have signed a contract extension with a smaller release clause.
However, at the start of FM24, his release clause is £28m, which is a fee well worth playing. Aimar has decent stats at the beginning of the game and he develops into a very good attacking midfielder.
I mostly used him as an advanced playmaker on the left wing, although he sometimes played as a playmaker in a more central role.
For a few seasons, he produced double figures in goals and assists. However, one caveat is that he never seems to reach an elite level in stats or star rating. By his mid-twenties, you can still sell him for a decent price.
Andre Almeida (Valencia, £20m)
The 23-year-old versatile Portuguese star is a good, solid, all-around midfield option for a reasonable fee.
Although his primary positions are central midfielder and attacking midfielder, he can also play out wide as a wide-midfielder or a winger on either flank.
It is surprising that he will only cost £20m, but with Almeida, you will certainly get value for money.
Maxence Lacroix (Wolfsburg, release clause of £34.5m)
The French centre-back can be a top signing. He won’t cost you the earth, and he proves to be a highly reliable player in the centre of your defence.
His starting stats are strong, and he is only 23, so he has time to develop even further.
There are unlikely to be many better centre-backs available for £34.5m on FM24, so signing him seems like a no-brainer.
Mikel Merino (Real Sociedad, release clause of £38.5m)
The midfielder’s release clause of £38.5m belies his stats and what he can bring to your team. I would go as far as saying for me he is one of the best players in his position on FM24.
He can play as a central midfielder or a deeper role in the centre of the park. In an emergency, Merino can even fill in as a centre-back, so he brings both quality and versatility.
Nico Williams (Athletic Club, release clause of £43M)
The younger of the Williams brothers is one of the brightest young prospects in the European game.
The 20-year-old’s stats are strong at the beginning of the game. His stats only get better with more experience, and he can become a top player.
In my personal saves on FM24, Williams has been among the most exciting players I have owned.
David Garcia (Osasuna, release clause of £17.25m)
Garcia may well be the most shrewd signing on our list. The experienced centre-back is the sort of solid player that every team needs.
At 29, he may not be the youngest player, but he still has three or four years left in him at the top level of the game.
Finding a player with the same strong stats, such as tackling, heading, leadership and positioning, would be highly difficult for £17.25m on FM24.
He is a solid signing for most clubs in the top European leagues. Even if you are at an elite club, Garcia could prove to be a good squad player.
