post &#8211; I said I had completed the profiles. \u00a0I had not, I forgot the goalkeeper. \u00a0Thanks to Ed from The Deep Lying Podcast for asking me to complete the set.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The goalkeeper from a &#8220;Searching the Stats&#8221; point of view is fairly simple really. \u00a0What am I interested in, when thinking about #TheArgentineStrikerless?<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, a goalkeeper that <strong>does not make mistakes<\/strong>. \u00a0One of the greatest ever goalkeepers, Peter Shilton, was obsessed with mistakes &#8211; he believed the best goalie in the world was not the one who could make the best saves, but the one who made the fewest mistakes. \u00a0Here are some great Shilton quotes that endorse that feeling.\u00a0 So yes, the most important thing on the profile is a goalkeeper that does not make mistakes that lead to goals, and does not make mistakes in general.<\/p>\n<p>After that, well I like the team to play out from the back &#8211; the PI for the SK\/S is distribute quickly, to the full backs. \u00a0Therefore I would expect a <strong>decent pass completion %<\/strong>. \u00a0Now, I accept a lot of the goalkeepers in Hungary are playing in a team where they do not play from the back so readily, therefore a lot of them are knocking the ball long, and pass completion % numbers will be lower. \u00a0That is worth bearing in mind, but if you find one with a high %, it means he is already comfortable playing in a side that plays from the back.<\/p>\n<p>What else? \u00a0Well it&#8217;s more of a case of &#8220;why do you not look at that?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t look at clean sheets &#8211; as that is completely contextual. \u00a0Is a goalkeeper in a good team better than a goalkeeper in a bad team because he has kept more clean sheets? \u00a0FM16 does not have great goalkeeping performance stats sadly, it tells me how many saves held, parried, tipped but it does not tell me a % number &#8211; who cares if he has made 30 saves if that is 5%? \u00a0If I am wrong on this and there is a % stat out there, please let me know! \u00a0Therefore the only concrete stats I can trust are those above.<\/p>\n<p>Now I take another step. \u00a0Let&#8217;s say I have highlighted a goalkeeper that I think matches the profile (there could be loads as the filter is quite broad to be honest). \u00a0I will then go into ProZone and look at the performance in three games &#8211; one win, one loss and one against us (if possible).<\/p>\n<p>There is one way I can get a feel for how well a goalkeeper has performed in terms of his ability to keep the ball out of the net, in context. \u00a0By looking at team analysis for the match, you can see how many shots and saves were made, and judge whether the goalkeeper had a high % of saves compared to shots taken.<\/p>\n<p>For a goalkeeper it is fairly basic, and manual stuff to find data that will help you make a decent recruitment decision. \u00a0You might have five that you cannot choose between. \u00a0I would always choose the one who was the best value for money and had potential resale value.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested, this is what my goalkeeper looks like after 22 games or so.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/thehighertempopress.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/11\/screen-shot-2015-11-09-at-13-23-37.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1337\" src=\"https:\/\/thehighertempopress.files.wordpress.com\/2015\/11\/screen-shot-2015-11-09-at-13-23-37.png\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2015-11-09 at 13.23.37\" width=\"764\" height=\"478\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thehighertempopress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/screen-shot-2015-11-09-at-13-23-37.png 1440w, https:\/\/www.thehighertempopress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/screen-shot-2015-11-09-at-13-23-37-300x188.png 300w, https:\/\/www.thehighertempopress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/screen-shot-2015-11-09-at-13-23-37-768x480.png 768w, https:\/\/www.thehighertempopress.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/screen-shot-2015-11-09-at-13-23-37-1024x640.png 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 764px) 100vw, 764px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>The Profile:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Goal Mistakes:<\/strong> \u00a0Ideally Zero<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Mistakes:<\/strong> \u00a0An average of less than 0.25 per game is good<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Pass completion %:<\/strong> \u00a085%+<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In the next &#8220;StS&#8221;
