Five rising star goalkeepers in FM24

Football Manager 2024 has been out for a long time, but many are still playing the game. Some are starting new saves, as there is little sign of the next addition of the game in the near future.

With that in mind, I will cover some of the rising stars of goalkeeping, who, if signed early, can save you a fortune in transfer fees later in the game:

(Please note all goalkeepers are 21 or under)

Dennis Seimen (Stuttgart)

The young German under-20 international is just 17 years of age when you first begin the game. However, his starting stats are highly impressive for a player of such tender years.

He is the typical wonderkid, whose stats rise significantly as he gains more first-team experience. In fact, when he is in his mid-20s, he is one of the best goalkeepers in the game.

One of the big caveats to signing Seimen is that, despite his young years, he can be costly to sign in the early seasons of the game. If he doesn’t sign a new deal, then it can pay off to wait for his contract to get near expiry.

In September 2024, Seimen extended his contract to 2029, which shows how highly-rated the youngster is by Die Roten. His contract in FM24 expires in 2027.

Guillaume Restes (Toulouse)

Any regular viewers of the French Ligue One will be familiar with the youngster, as he has featured heavily in the Toulouse first team in recent seasons. In real life, he has shown his tremendous ability and potential.

When you start FM24, Restes is still only 18 years of age. However, like Seimen, his stats are not those of a player his age. His stats are high in many areas, including Determination, Reflexes and One on Ones.

As I am using an updated database, Restes’ value has now rocketed as it better reflects his experience and development in real life. Unfortunately, he is expensive to buy early in the game. Wait a few seasons, and despite improving, he could be available for a smaller fee, as long as he doesn’t extend his contract.

Lucas Chevalier (Lille)

The young stopper has been the first-choice goalkeeper at Lille for the majority of the last three seasons. He is now 24 and considered one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers in the European game. His performances for LOSC were acknowledged in November 2024 when he received his first call-up to the French national team.

On FM24, Chevalier is just 21 when you begin a new save. He is slightly older than the two players above, but it means his stats are slightly higher, too.

He is one of my go-to goalkeepers when I need a goalkeeper in the early seasons, and is highly reliable and never seems to let me down.

The fact that he can be bought for as little as £15m in the first transfer window makes him an attractive signing.

There is one small caveat in the fact that Chevalier doesn’t have the same ceiling of potential in FM24 as some of the other players. He never quite reaches five-star status, but he is still a highly solid goalkeeping option.

Jonas Urbig (Bayern Munich)

The young goalkeeper starts the game as a 19-year-old. As I am using an updated database, FM24 reflects that he joined Bavarian giants Bayern Munich in the January transfer window from Koln.

Urbig burst onto the scene during an injury crisis for Bayern. The now-21-year-old made his debut for the men from Munich as a replacement for Manuel Neuer in a 3-0 Champions League victory at home against Bayer Leverkusen.

He has gone on to make six Bundesliga appearances for Bayern, while also appearing in the Champions League once more against Bayer Leverkusen in a 2-0 victory.

I have to admit, before the update and he signed for Bayern, I was unfamiliar with the German under-21 international. However, looking at his stats on the update and his potential, he could well be a bargain on FM24.

In my update, Urbig is actually available on loan to sign. A loan deal could be the ideal way to assess whether he can fulfil his potential.

Anatoliy Trubin (Benfica)

Last but not least on our list is Benfica’s Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin. He is actually the goalkeeper with the best starting stats on the game out of our five listed stoppers.

For the last few editions of the game, he has just grown in potential and ability. The giant goalkeeper made his name at Shakhtar Donetsk before a big 2023 move to Portuguese giants Benfica.

Since then, he has been a regular for the Eagles in between the sticks. At 23, he is now considered one of the best keepers of his age.

In FM, he is by far one of my favourite goalkeepers. He has the potential to be one of the best goalkeepers on every save. His starting stats are exceptional, and if you can sign him, then it will be the best money you could spend.

Unfortunately, like the other players in our list, his price has gone up due to his status in real life, as he can now cost around £45-50m.

However, if you are managing a club with the funds to sign the Ukrainian, then you won’t regret signing him. If you are a club that doesn’t have that sort of cash, then you may have to wait for a few seasons to sign the Ukrainian international.
