Pre-Match

The bookmaker’s’ odds reflect the disparity in quality between the two sides today. PSV are available at odds of 1/8.

PSV are still without Menno Koch, Joshua Brenet and Marco van Ginkel due to injury.

There is no team news for GVVV.

Not too much is known about this side other than our Chief Scout marking out midfielder Soufiane Laghmouchi as a key player on the wing. Being the far more superior team, we’ll play our own game and allow them to scramble to counter us. A few minor changes today to allow for some first-choice players to rest ahead of the tougher games.

The Teams

First Half

An early marker of PSV’s intent pays dividends as Davy Propper takes advantage of some lax defending to fire PSV into the lead just two minutes into the game. 1-0 PSV.

The next chance comes on 16 minutes as Pablo Rosario receives the ball 30 yards from goal but his shot goes well wide. PSV keep pressing forward and Gaston Pereiro’s crossed ball is headed over by Jurgen Locadia less than a minute later.

On 26 minutes PSV win a free-kick 10 yards outside the box. Gaston Pereiro shoots but can’t get his attempt on target. Pereiro gets another chance from a free-kick on the half hour mark and this time pulls a great save from the GVVV goalkeeper.

On the stroke of half time, Gaston Pereiro skips into the box past three opposition players but has the ball nicked away at the last moment. The winger is looking very much the dangerman for Eindhoven so far today.

Half Time

For all PSV’s dominance they are only a goal ahead at the break.

Gaston Pereiro has looked dangerous with 4 successful dribbles (blue), 2 completed crosses (green) and 2 shots going close (yellow/orange).

Second Half

5 minutes into the second half and Pereiro is causing problems for GVVV again. This time his excellent free-kick finds the head of Ramselaar but the header is well saved.

Two minutes later GVVV are reduced to 10 men with the second yellow card of Ayoub Boubakari. Luuk de Jong replacecs Davy Propper – Luuk goes up top and Siem drops to the AM spot behind him.

PSV break away from a poor GVVV free-kick on the hour mark. Gaston Pereiro races down the right side of the pitch with Siem de Jong for company in the middle and only one defender in sight. Pereiro takes the chance on himself from a tight angle but the shot is pushed wide for a corner. The corner is headed over by Isimat at the near post.

Andres Guardado replaces Bart Ramselaar on 62 minutes.

On 74 minutes PSV finally double their lead. A Guardado short corner goes to Siem de Jong, the striker’s first attempted cross is cleared but lands right back at his own feet. The second attempt clears the outstretched arm of the GVVV goalkeeper and finds Siem’s brother Luuk making a run to the back post to head in the second goal of the game. 2-0 PSV.

With 10 minutes to go, 19-year-old Sam Lammers replaces Siem de Jong.

In the 82nd minute PSV have another free-kick, this time it’s Hector Moreno to take. His curling effort has the goalkeeper at full stretch but the scoreline remains 2-0.

In the last minute of normal time, Gaston Pereiro crosses near post, this time Luuk De Jong’s shot can only hit the side netting.

Full Time

It may not be the goalfest everyone expected but it’s another confident and assured performance from PSV.

Gaston Pereiro’s successful dribbles and heatmap show the winger’s influence on the left flank.
